President of the World Bank Group David Malpass said on Monday that his Bank is committed to creating a space for exchanging ideas with youth on important issues the new generations are facing.

Addressing the fourth edition of the Word Youth Forum currently in session in the Resd Sea tourist resort of Sharm El Sheikh under the theme “Back Together”, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, he praised the role of youth in eliminating poverty, promoting equality among the two genders and leading an effective development process.

He said the Covid-19 pandemic affected the life of people and businesses especially in the Middle East and North Africa region, as well as job opportunities and the volume of participation in the labor market.

The World Bank official hinted at reports issued by UNESCO and UNICEF in December which indicated that the closure of schools as a result of the global outbreak caused the loss of about 70 trillion dollars of the GDP worldwide.

Malpass called for benefitting from digital technology which enables young entrepreneurs to become better producers, promotes social inclusion and helps in the provision of services and in capacity building and strengthening social resilience.

He added that green economy provides more job opportunities for youth, pointing out that the WB is committed to plans related to climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts and top priority projects.
