CAIRO – Spain appreciates the painstaking efforts exerted by Egypt under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to put an end to the bloodshed in Gaza Strip and Lebanon, affirmed Spanish Ambassador to Egypt Alvaro Iranzo.
Egypt is a main player in the region and there is no way to resolve any conflict without its mediation, he added in an exclusive statements to MENA on the occasion marking Spain’s National Day, which will be observed on Saturday.
The Spanish ambassador, meanwhile, lauded the depth of ties binding Egypt and Spain, especially at the political level.
Egypt is one of Spain’s closest and most trusted partners in the Mediterranean region, he further said.
The Spanish ambassador said that the political dialogue, which is based on shared values and trust is the main driving force for “our bilateral ties”.
Since President Abdel Fattah El Sisi assumed Egypt’s presidency, high-level mutual visits have been exchanged, and that since the president’s official visit to Spain in 2015, at least 30 high-level bilateral meetings have been held between the two countries, he went on to say.
The ambassador further said that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez paid a visit to Egypt in October 2023, during which he participated in the Peace Summit in Cairo.
The Spanish prime minister paid another official visit to Egypt in November 2023 and March 2024, he added.
The recent period also witnessed visits from the Egyptian side to Spain, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptians Abroad Affairs Badr Abdel Aati visited Madrid last September.
