Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said water is an existential issue for Egypt that cannot be condoned as it is greatly important for the Egyptian national security.

In statements to Al Qahera Al Ikhbariya, Abdelatty said Egypt underlined during the United Nations Future Summit the importance of giving due attention to the issues of water scarcity and water security.

He asserted Egypt’s share of water since 1959 meets about 60% of its annual needs.

He noted that contacts were held with regional and international parties to bring this issue again into limelight, referring to raising the issue during talks with with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

As for Egypt’s goals to realize peace and development, he said Egypt’s vision during the Future Summit focused on reforming the international financial structure as well as international financing institutions in addition to attaining the sustainable development goals in developing countries.

Concerning the Palestinian cause, the foreign minister asserted that regional stability cannot be realized without giving the Palestinians their rights and halting the Israeli aggression against innocent Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

He added that the Islamic and Arab liaison group held a ministerial meeting on joint action at the UN and the UN Security Council to immediately halt the massacres in the Gaza Strip, stem bloodshed of the Palestinians and ensure access of assistance.

He added that a conference on the Palestinian cause will be held in tandem with the EU and the Arab group, highlighting that the Egyptian-Qatari efforts with the US partners to cease fire in the Gaza Strip will continue.

Concerning the hostilities in Lebanon, he said Egypt offered all needed assistance to the Lebanese people in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

He expressed concerns over the unprecedented and unacceptable Israeli escalation against Lebanon’s sovereignty.

He added that Egypt had contacts with Lebanon to underline its solidarity with the Arab state and condemnation of all Israeli measures against the Lebanese sovereignty.

As for the Sudanese crisis, he said Egypt will never stop offering all kinds of support to Sudan, highlighting the efforts exerted by Egypt in this regard.

He said the Egyptian political leadership seeks reaching a political solution for all Sudanese factions, referring to Egypt’s role to ceasefire and ensure aid access to Sudan.
