Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has reiterated Egypt’s support for the sovereignty and unity of Lebanon.

Speaking in a joint press conference with his visiting Lebanese counterpart Abdallah bou Habib Tuesday, Abdelatty pointed to intensified coordination between the two Arab countries regarding regional files and bilateral relations.

The visit comes in such critical and sensitive timing amid regional escalation and very complicated and hazardous conditions due to the fierce war waged by Israel in Gaza, he added.

This war could escalate and lead to an expansion of conflict in the region, Abdelatty warned.

The foreign minister said his meeting with his Lebanese counterpart earlier today took up economic and trade relations.

Abdelatty told bou Habib that Egypt categorically condemns any attacks on Lebanon.

Cairo rejects the policy of escalations in the region, including Lebanon, he stressed.

Abdelatty expressed solidarity with Lebanese state institutions.

Egypt urges all parties to the conflict to exercise self-restraint and avoid being dragged into a comprehensive regional war, the top diplomat told bou Habib.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said the talks with his Lebanese counterpart tackled Egypt’s efforts with various regional and international parties to contain the escalation.

He noted that he had talks with the US state secretary, Iran’s acting foreign minister as well as the Chinese and Russian foreign ministers.

He asserted that Egypt will continue its intensive talks to avoid the outbreak of a regional war.

He told the Lebanese foreign minister that Egypt will spare no effort to keep Lebanon away from this escalation.

Abdelatty said the talks with the Lebanese foreign minister reviewed mediation efforts to release hostage and halt the war in the Gaza Strip, noting that Egypt is cooperating with Qatar, the US and other Arab and international partners to reach a truce.

Egypt will continue coordinating efforts with Arab, regional and international partners to push for the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

He accentuated Egypt’s full support for a truce in southern Lebanon as well as full implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

He stressed that Israel and all the parties concerned should show serious interest in preparing for a truce taking into consideration the Lebanese interests and protecting Lebanon’s sovereignty.

Abdelatty asserted the importance of his talks with the Lebanese foreign minister, voicing hop to continue
