GAZA CITY – The US White House said it is aware of reports of the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas”.
CNN quoted a White House spokesman as saying that he “saw reports about the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran,” but he refused to comment immediately.
In turn, Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Wednesday that the leader of Hamas movement Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, noting that the Hamas movement announced the news of his assassination and attributed it to Israel, adding that his assassination came hours after targeting senior official in the Lebanese Hezbollah Fouad Shukr.
The newspaper indicated that Haniyeh was in Iran to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Masoud Pezeshkian and met with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with the leader of the Islamic Jihad movement Ziad al-Nakhalah Tuesday.
The Iranian television first reported Haniyeh’s assassination, followed by a quick announcement from Hamas, the paper added.
