CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Badr Abdel Aati asserted that Egypt spared no effort since the start of the war on Gaza to guarantee the flow of humanitarian aid supplies via Rafah crossing, adding that the military escalation in the Palestinian city of Rafah and the Israeli control over the Palestinian side of the crossing caused suspending the entrance of aid supplies.
This came on Thursday during Abdel Aati’s reception to UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza Sigrid Kaag at the premises of Foreign Ministry.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said that the minister necessitated the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Palestinian city of Rafah and operating the crossing by the Palestinian authority.
The minister asserted Egypt’s openness to co-operation and coordination with the UN to apply resolution no. 2720 of the UNSC which guarantees swift entrance of humanitarian aid supplies to the Gaza Strip without any hindrance to ease the suffering of the Palestinians who face a real unprecedented catastrophe, the spokesman said.
Abdel Aati expressed Egypt’s deep concern over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza after 10 months of the Israeli aggression against the Palestinians in light of the wide violations of the international law and the humanitarian international law, the spokesman said.
The minister urged the UN coordinator to determine the obstacles and challenges facing the entrance and distribution of humanitarian aid supplies in Gaza, the spokesman added.
Abdel Aati condemned any attacks against workers in the field of humanitarian aid in Gaza, Abu Zeid said.
Meanwhile, Kaag reviewed the efforts exerted to allow and deliver aid supplies to the enclave, adding that the military operations and security chaos in Gaza are big challenges.
The talks tackled in details the evaluation of different tracks to allow humanitarian aid supplies to the enclave.
Kaag thanked Egypt for its continuous efforts to face the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the spokesman said.
Kaag asserted keenness to work with Egypt on post-war reconstruction and healing, Abu Zeid said.
