WASHINGTON – The FBI is investigating the Trump rally shooting as an act of domestic terrorism as well as an assassination attempt on the former president, Axios reported quoting officials as saying.

Searches of a vehicle and the Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, home of suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks uncovered “suspicious devices” that were “rendered safe by bomb technicians and are being evaluated at the FBI Laboratory,” per an emailed statement from the bureau Sunday night.

Investigators believe that the 20-year-old suspect acted alone in the attack on former President Trump that killed at least one spectator and left two others critically injured, officials said.

FBI Pittsburgh special agent in charge Kevin Rojek told reporters that the gun used in the attempted assassination of Trump in which the shooter also died was an “AR-style 556 rifle” that was bought legally.

The FBI said in its email that while the investigation into Saturday’s shooting at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, “indicates the shooter acted alone, the FBI continues to conduct logical investigative activity to determine if there were any co-conspirators associated with this attack.”

However, there were “no current public safety concerns” at this time, the statement added.
Robert Wells, the executive assistant director of the FBI’s National Security Branch, told reporters earlier Sunday that the bureau’s “counterterrorism division and our criminal divisions are working jointly together to determine the motive.”

Clairton Sportsmen’s Club confirmed in a statement to media that Crooks was a member of the gun club. shooting as an act of domestic terrorism as well as an assassination attempt on the former president, Axios reported quoting officials as saying.
