CAIRO – Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb has discussed with Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin ways to foster joint cooperation.
During the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Indonesian presidency, Al Azhar imam said the Muslim world lacks coordination of efforts among its countries and institutions, as well as a unified stance expressing its challenges and crises that is shared by political decision-makers, religious scholars, and intellectuals.
Tayyeb pointed out to Al Azhar’s constant keenness on increasing awareness of the moderation of Islam.
Al Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders have held rounds of dialogue between the East and West, international conferences on the status of women in Islam, in addition to other conferences that call for activating the use of the term “citizenship” instead of “minorities”, he said.
“Citizenship” entails empowerment and equality among all humans, regardless of their religion, race, gender or color, he added.
Elsewhere, Indonesia’s National Board of Zakat (BAZNAS) has extended thanks to Azhar’s Grand Imam for great relief efforts to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
During their meeting, Chairman of BAZNAS Noor Achmad thanked Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb, head of the Egyptian House of Zakat and Charity (EZCH)’s board of trustees, over fruitful cooperation between the two sides in different fields.
Ahmed added that both sides have growing coordination and cooperation since the occupation forces started their aggression in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
