President Sisi heads to Jordan to participate in Gaza emergency aid summit

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi heads to Jordan on Tuesday to take part in an international conference on urgent response to Gaza, which is jointly held upon call by president Sisi, Jordanian King Abdullah II and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Scheduled to take place on the Dead Sea coast, Jordan, the conference aims at enhancing the international community’s response to the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip.

The conference is set to be attended by a host of head of states, governments and international relief and humanitarian organisations.

The emergency summit, which convenes amid unprecedented deterioration of the situation in the Gaza Strip, aims to tackle the means of enhancing the delivery of assistance into the Gaza Strip alongside addressing the humanitarian crisis of civilians there, Spokesman for the Presidency Ahmed Fahmy said.

It also seeks mobilising relief efforts of UN agencies, specially the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and other aid agencies assigned to receiving and distributing aid throughout the enclave, according to the spokesman.

President Sisi is due to have discussions with world leaders participating in the conference regarding updates of efforts meant to reach a ceasefire deal and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, the spokesman added.
