The General Administration of Factories Control carried out 82 supervisory inspections of food factories nationwide, according to the latest report by the Information Centre of the National Food Safety Authority during the period June 1–7.
Notably, four food facilities were registered with the National Food Safety Authority; two met registration requirements, and four met qualifying requirements.
Examination, inspection, and accreditation visits by the Department of Control of Packing Stations and Centres reached 48, registered 2 establishments, and issued 1,924 agricultural export permits.
Potatoes topped the list of exports at 26,000 tonnes, followed by onions at 20,000 tonnes, beans at 8000 tonnes, and 58 types of exported vegetables at 60,000 tonnes.
Citrus fruit exports were in the lead with 50,000 tonnes, followed by grapes at 25,000 tonnes and strawberries at 12,000 tonnes.
The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, and Sudan were the biggest customers for Egyptian products out of 175 importers.
Also, NFSA participated in the training programme for date packing warehouses in the Bahariya Oasis area to comply with food safety requirements in co-operation and coordination between the Export Council for Agricultural Crops and the Project to Support Control and Inspection Systems (Tayyip) from June 2–5.
The General Administration for Registration and Licensing of Private Food registered 51 products and 9 companies, carried out 6 inspection visits, and examined 432 new products.
In another context, the room for strategic goods management has inspected the functioning of the local wheat receiving committees and overcome any obstacles in the number of governorates.
The Authority’s managers also periodically pass through local wheat storage sites within each governorate.
Complaints reached 20; 6 of them were solved, and 14 complaints are currently under monitoring.
Control of Commercial Chains has conducted 24 commissariats to ensure that their branches meet the requirements of food safety.
The Warehouse Control Department implemented 24 monitoring missions in a number of governorates.
The General Department of Slaughterhouses conducted 7 inspection visits to poultry and meat slaughterhouses, as well as 52 visits to intestinal factories, in addition to issuing 16 permissions for exports to the EU.
The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), as part of its role, has launched extensive inspection campaigns to ensure food safety.
This came in line with directives from NFSA chairman Dr Tareq El-Houby to tighten the control on food establishments in a number of governorates.
