Tayyeb: Humanity in pressing need of Quran's guidance 12 - Egyptian Gazette

Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tyyeb on Saturday said that current difficult circumstances facing the humanity underscore the pressing need for the guidance of the holy Quran and similar faiths.

Tayyeb made the remarks while addressing a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Awqaf to mark Laylatul Qadr at Al Manara International Conference Center in New Cairo, in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

He congratulated the president, the Egyptian people as well as Muslim and Arab world on the occasion of Laylatul Qadr.

“Our world lacks wise leadership, racing towards an identity never witnessed by the history before,” the grand imam said, adding that “global disputes are evolving rapidly into armed conflicts.”

Laylat Al Qadr, or the Night of Power, is the name given to the night when the Angel Jibril first appeared to the prophet Muhammad and began revealing the Holy Qur’an.

The Azhar grand imam highlighted the suffering of the besieged Palestinian people in Gaza, where dozens of children, woman and civilians have been killed.

He denounced the silence of the international organizations, including the United Nations, that abstain from implementing their commitments regarding the situation in Gaza.

The ordeals facing the region should represent a decisive turning point for the Arab and Muslim world to restore its pioneering status worldwide, Tayyed said.

He called for achieving unity among Muslim clergymen and scholars toward reaching consensus and serving the Arab and Muslims welfare.

The grand imam congratulated President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on swearing-in for a new term in office, wishing him a successful leadership fulfilling further peace, security and progress for Egypt.
