CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva agreed on the necessity of reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, releasing detainees, delivering more humanitarian aid to the Israeli-besieged enclave and protecting Palestinian civilians.

In a joint press conference at al Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo on Thursday, the two leaders stressed the need to find a post-war political solution that ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

President Sisi stated Egypt and Brazil celebrate the 100th anniversary of establishing bilateral ties, underlining the importance of fostering those relations at the political, economic, industrial and agriculture levels.

President Sisi said he agreed with President Lula to form a joint higher committee between the two countries to discuss ways of fostering joint co-operation.

He added that he will complete his talks with the Brazilian president during his coming visit to Brazil where he will attend G20 meeting.

The Brazilian leader is currently on a two-day visit to Egypt.

President Lula’s visit to Egypt is his second official visit to Africa since assuming office in January 2023.

He will depart from Cairo to Ethiopia for a two-day visit to participate as a guest in the 37th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa.
