Suspension of funding UNRWA comes under collective punishment policy to Gazans: ECSS general director to Gaza 1 - Egyptian Gazette

General director of the Egyptian Center for Strategic Studies (ECSS) Khaled Okasha said that the suspension of funding the UNRWA by some western countries comes under the policy of collective punishment which is internationally prohibited and practiced against the Gazans in addition to genocide, forced displacement and hindering the flow of relief supplies to the devastated enclave.

Okasha’s remarks came in statements to MENA on the sidelines of a seminar organized by the center under the rubric “Egyptian expectations for the regions and the world” that comes within the framework of the 55th Cairo International Book Fair.

Okasha warned from the stop of the UNRWA action which plays a decisive role in helping the poorest segments of refugees in the Gaza Strip.

He termed the decision of stopping UNRWA funding as “irresponsible”, especially in light of the humanitarian catastrophe and harsh circumstances in the Gaza Strip.

Okasha urged the international community to shoulder its responsibility and rescue the civilians in the enclave and look into the repercussions of the decision in the current time of the tragic humanitarian crisis in the enclave and the brutal Israel war that killed more than 26,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

Okasha highlighted the strenuous efforts exerted by Egypt since the start of the ruthless Israeli war on Gaza, adding that it saves no effort to guarantee allowing the humanitarian and relief supplies to the Palestinian brethren quickly in spite of the Israeli hindrances.
