Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF) is the second most important fair worldwide, Culture Minister Nevine El Kelany said Wednesday.
Speaking to Al Nahar TV channel, the minister reiterated that some 70 countries participate in the 55th edition of CIBF, which was opened on Wednesday by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli at Egypt Center for International Exhibitions and Conferences, in the Fifth Settlement.
The minister pointed out that there are several discounts up to 70% sale to encourage youth to read books.
She expected the number of visitors to exceed 4 million in the 2024 Cairo Book Fair, compared with 3.7 million visitors in the last edition.
About 1,200 Arab and foreign publishers take part in this year’s fair.
Norway is the guest of honor of the fair which is held from January 25 to February 5.
Egyptologist Selim Hassan was selected as the fair’s character and writer Yacoub Sharoni as the character of child book fair.
