CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry heads Sunday to Brussels on a working visit to lead Egypt’s delegation to the 10th meeting of the EU-Egypt Association Council.

Shoukry and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell will co-chair the meeting, that will also see the participation of a host of European Union (EU) foreign ministers, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The meeting is of special importance, as it marks the 20th anniversary since the association agreement between Egypt and the EU has entered into force in 2004, added the spokesman.

The meeting will also follow up on the implementation of the Egyptian-European partnership, as well as benefiting from the framework of the the Egypt-EU Partnership Priorities 2021-2027, he further said.

The Egyptian foreign minister’s visit will also include holding a working breakfast with the EU foreign ministers to discuss ways of boosting bilateral ties and follow up on the implementation of joint projects and programs between Egypt and the EU, according to the spokesman.

They will also exchange viewpoints toward the current regional crises, topped by the situation in the Gaza Strip, the conditions in Sudan, Somalia, Libya, and the security concerns in the Red Sea, he noted.

Shoukry will also hold a series of meetings with foreign ministers of the European Union (EU) countries and the European commissioners concerned with neighborhood policies, the economy, energy, migration, climate, humanitarian affairs and crisis management, said the spokesman.

Meanwhile, he said the Egyptian foreign minister will participate in a meeting with the foreign ministers of Jordan and Saudi Arabia along with the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy to discuss the latest developments in Gaza Strip and the future of the Palestinian cause.
