CAIRO – Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting to discuss the national strategy for treating childhood cancer in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), through the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC), and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The minister said the policies, based on scientific evidence, that have been adopted by the Egyptian State included focusing on enhancing research and cooperation in the childhood cancer field through establishing partnerships with well-known international institutions to exchange knowledge and expertise, Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.

This contributes to following advanced treatment protocols, engaging in clinical trials, and speeding up the introduction of advanced treatments for childhood cancer patients in Egypt, the minister said.

The meeting was attended by a number of officials, including director of non-communicable diseases and mental health at the World Health Organization (WHO) Cairo Randa Aboul Naga, while director of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Carlos Rodriguez took part in the meeting via video conference, along with other senior officials.
