UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron, who is currently visiting here, has thanked Egypt for offering assistance to the Gaza Strip alongside working on reducing burden on hospitals in the enclave.
“I’m thanking the Egyptian state for its great effort – alongside the Red Crescent – to provide assistance to Gaza and alleviate burden on hospitals in the strip,” Cameron said during a joint-press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Thursday in Cairo.
He underscored that the Egyptian-British relations are of special importance for his country.
As for efforts to reach a humanitarian pause in Gaza, Cameron said: “Talks are maintained at all levels regarding the UN Security Council resolution. We are keen on reaching a permanent deal as regards the situation in Gaza.”
Cameron called for up-scaling quantities of humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip.
Speaking about the situation in the Red Sea, the UK foreign secretary said: “We have witnessed recently dangers that threaten ships, The waterways of transporting oil and economic consignments should be safe to avoid attacks on the ships. The UK is willing to assist in making the waterways safe and open for all.”
Cameron hailed talks with Shoukry as good, highlighting the fraternity ties between the two countries.
The UK is aware of the large number of refugees hosted by Egypt, Cameron said, adding that his country is looking forward to offer assistance with the issue in light of its significance for the bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, the UK foreign secretary expressed gratitude for meeting Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, especially following his landslide victory in the presidential election.
