Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday received Raymond Carlsen, CEO of Norway’s Scatec Solar, a leading world company in new and renewable energy.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, and CEO of the Egypt’s Sovereign Fund Ayman Soliman, together with Norway’s Ambassador in Cairo Hilde Klemetsdal and some Scatec Solar’s executive officials, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
The meeting tackled the opportunities for co-operation with Scatec Solar regarding the localisation of water desalination technology in Egypt, and also in new and renewable energy projects, within the framework of the national strategy on clean energy, Radi added.
The strategy is being carried out in co-operation with leading international expertise in the field, making utmost use of the various sources of renewable energy in Egypt, mainly solar and wind power.
President Sisi stressed Egypt’s keenness on co-operation with the Norwegian side, which enjoys broad expertise in new and renewable energy. He said it is important that any future co-operation projects between the two sides must include technical training centres to build operation and maintenance capacities, as well as research and development ones.
For his part, the Scatec Solar’s CEO said he was honoured to meet President Sisi. He also emphasised his company’s interest in discussing opportunities for co-operation with Egypt, particularly in light of the good reputation Egypt enjoys at the regional level in the field of preserving the environment and the growing reliance on new and renewable energy, which was crowned by the choice of Egypt to host the UN Climate Summit (COP27) next year, Ambassador Radi said.
