Minister of Information Osama Heikal yesterday welcomed Ankara’s warning to television channels broadcasting from Turkey to observe professional codes of ethics in their treatment of Egyptian affairs.

The minister described the Turkish move as a “good initiative”.

“This creates an environment appropriate for discussions on contentious files between the two countries [Egypt and Turkey] over the years,” the Egyptian minister said.

He said that television channels that target certain countries are unacceptable.

“It is not acceptable in terms of international relations either,” Heikal said, noting that countries usually work to serve their interests and the interests of their peoples.

“I do not believe that political differences between Egypt and Turkey serve the interests of their peoples,” he said.

“Egypt does not adopt hostile attitudes towards other countries,” he added.

“Egypt’s policy on international relations is solid,” the minister said.

“It strives to enhance relations with everybody on a basis of understanding and the protection of shared interests.”
