Tanta University is to launch its own satellite channel soon.
President of Tanta University Dr Mahmoud Zaki and Maj.-Gen. Ahmed Anis, chairman of the Egyptian Company for Satellites (Nilesat) yesterday signed a contract for the university’s educational channel.
Dr Zaki said that the channel would circumvent the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic and support distance learning, of which Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar is said to be much in favour.
The channel will target colleges of commerce, literature, education and law, catering for 80,000 students, Dr Zaki said.
Dr Zaki went on to say that it is clear that the high student density negatively affects the quality of education, exacerbated by the spread of Covid-19.
Distance learning has therefore become an inevitable necessity, even though it is considered a contribution in the development of quality tertiary education while safeguarding the health of students and staff, Dr Zaki said.
The effectiveness of distance learning, however, is contingent with the quality of bandwidth speeds, he said.
Because of weak internet connections in some of the governorate’s villages, Tanta University decided to launch this channel.
