CAIRO- Egypt has drafted a resolution calling for creating a mechanism securing access for humanitarian relief for civilians in the war-devastated Gaza Strip, without unreasonable objection from the Israeli side, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
The resolution also requires all states to live up to their responsibilities regarding what is going on in the besieged coastal enclave, Abu Zeid added during a phone interview with Sada El Balad satellite TV channel on Wednesday evening.
He deplored that some states had voted against a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, and even objected to laying down a reliable aid delivery mechanism.
This is the goal of ongoing efforts by Arab and Muslim countries, the spokesman said, noting that Egypt will submit the resolution on behalf of an Arab-Islamic group.
Unofficial discussions are also under way in New York to address the challenges facing delivering sustainable and sufficient aid into Gaza, the spokesman added.
He also cited a resolution issued at a joint extraordinary Arab and Islamic summit, held in Riyadh earlier this month, to create a committee including the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Turkey, along with the chiefs of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to contact permanent members of the UN Security and other politically influential countries and explain to them the common position adopted by Egypt and sisterly Arab and Muslim countries.
The Arab-Islamic committee started with China, followed by Russia, Britain, and France, to convey the Arab-Islamic message, the spokesman said.
Abu Zeid also cited remarks made by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry who lambasted the Israeli occupation’s indiscriminate attacks on civilian assemblies, pushing them away from their homes in Gaza.
Shoukry described these attacks as part of a systematic approach to forcibly displace Palestinians inside or outside the besieged city, the spokesman noted.
Abu Zeid said the 4-day pause for prisoners swap, agreed earlier today by Hamas and the occupation authorities, is an important step towards a temporary truce in military operations to allow delivering life-saving assistance to those in need in the war-ravaged city.
