The Embassy of Angola in Cairo organised a function to celebrate the 48th National Day. The event was attended by ambassadors and representatives from the Arab, African, European, and American diplomatic corps.
Minister Plenipotentiary Trade Yahya Al Wathiq Billah delivered the prime minister’s speech during the embassy’s celebration of Angola’s 48th independence anniversary. Madbouly expressed Egypt’s pride in the brotherly relations with Angola and its commitment to enhancing economic co-operation. He highlighted the importance of leveraging the strong political ties between the two countries to foster concrete commercial, industrial, and investment projects that benefit both economies. Egypt also pledged its support for Angola’s development efforts by providing technical assistance and capacity-building programmes.
Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamdi Sanad Loza, who attended the event, confirmed that both countries aim to strengthen their co-operation frameworks. He emphasised Egypt’s active role in supporting the liberation movements in Angola and Mozambique and its support for the resolution on territories under Portuguese domination during the first ordinary summit of the OAU in Cairo in 1964.
Ambassador Loza concluded by stating that Cairo and Luanda, with their commitment to regional integration and vast potential, can actively contribute to the realisation of the continental free trade agreement and a united African Union.
In his speech, Ambassador Nelson Manuel Cosme, the Angolan Ambassador to Cairo, said that the relations between Angola and Egypt are distinct, historical and long-standing. It is a relationship that began in 1965, with the opening, in Cairo, of the first regional representation, within the framework of Egyptian support for the Angolan Liberation Movements against Portuguese colonialism, and within a shared vision between late president Gamal Abdel Nasser and Angolan leaders.
Angola and Egypt have strengthened their bilateral relations as well as business partnerships. The two countries shared identical views on regional and international issues of common interest. “We emphasised the development of relations between our two countries over the last few years at a political, economic and cultural level, which culminated in the visit of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, to Angola in June this year, and the exchange of high-level bilateral visits, including visits of the ministers of foreign affairs and public works, housing and urbanism, last March”, Ambassador Cosme added.
