The value of Egypt’s exports to the Nile Basin countries reached dlrs 1.7 billion in 2022, compared to dlrs 1.6 billion in 2021, recording a rise of 7.3 percent, according to a statement released Monday by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

According to the annual statement of CAPMAS, trade exchange between Egypt and the Nile Basin countries included Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea and South Sudan.

Sudan came in first place with exports valued at dlrs 929.2 million in 2022 compared with dlrs 826.8 in 2021, representing an increase of 12.4 percent, followed by Kenya with exports of dlrs 355.7 million in 2022 compared with dlrs 382 million in 2021, with a decrease of up to 7 percent.

The most important commodities exported were plastics, chemicals and their products, with a value of exports reaching dlrs 625 million compared with dlrs 475.4 million, representing a total increase of 31.5 percent.

The value of imports from Nile Basin countries amounted to dlrs 1.4 billion in 2022, compared to dlrs 0.7 billion 2021, up with 75.9 percent.

Congo came in first place with exports to Egypt amounting to dlrs 524.5 million in 2022 compared with dlrs 110.9 million in 2021 or 373.0 percent increase, followed by Sudan with exports to Egypt amounting to dlrs 504.4 million in 2022 compared with dlrs 385.6 million in 2021 or 30.8 percent increase. The most important imports from Sudan included livestock and cotton.
