Meeting all the needs of the Palestinian people represents a top priority for the political leadership in Egypt, says Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

Speaking during a meeting with World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director, Cindy Hensley McCain Sunday, Shoukry talked about the deteriorating conditions in the Gaza Strip, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

He pointed to growing needs of the residents of Gaza in light of the severity of war going on in the Strip, stressing this entails securing those needs urgently, the spokesman added.

The top diplomat also touched upon strenuous Egyptian efforts to help the Palestinian people in Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid to those who deserve it.

Shoukry also talked about logistical obstacles imposed by Israel to hinder the delivery of humanitarian aid into the enclave, citing the repeated strikes on the Palestinian side of the Rafah Terminal.

Such obstacles add more burdens on Egypt and greatly disrupt the delivery of aid, he noted.

McCain said she very much appreciates the role played by Egypt to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people and to coordinate efforts with international organizations concerned.

She said she is looking forward to further cooperating with Cairo to implement WFP programs and activities meant to achieve food security and sustainable development in Egypt.
