Egypt’s Sphinx International Airport welcomed the first easyJet flight from London’s Gatwick Airport yesterday. The flight, carrying 148 passengers, was greeted with a water cannon salute, a traditional international welcome for inaugural flights.
A team from Egypt’s General Authority for Tourism Promotion also welcomed the passengers with flowers, souvenirs and promotional materials about Egypt’s diverse and rich tourism offerings.
EasyJet will operate three regular flights per week to Sphinx International Airport until the end of the current winter season, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. In addition, Wizz Air will operate three additional flights from London to Sphinx International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Sphinx International Airport has seen a significant increase in air traffic in recent months, with a growing number of airlines operating regular and charter flights to Egypt. This is a reflection of the country’s growing popularity as a tourist destination.
