The first meeting of the technical committee on Arab customs co-operation kicked off at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on Monday.
The two-day meeting, presided over by the United Arab Emirates, will tackle a number of topics topped by a draft resolution floated by the AL General Secretariat on the items of the committee activities in addition to another draft resolution on the executive mechanism of the Arab Customs co-operation agreement.
The agreement, adopted by the Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU), aims at encouraging Arab parties to facilitate and unify customs procedures with the aim of easing the transport of goods among Arab countries.
The meeting of the Arab League’s customs procedures and information committee was held in Cairo last month under the leadership of Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Araj, advisor to the deputy governor of the Zakat Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) in Saudi Arabia.
During his address at the meeting, Al-Araj expressed hope that the committee’s efforts to resolve issues related to the Arab Customs Federation’s preliminary unification requirements would advance.
