Egypt’s Finance Minister Mohamed Ma’eit said Monday that civil servants will cash new raises as part of their October wages.
Payment of wages will begin today with the increase in a bid to alleviate the impact of global inflation on citizens, Ma’eit said in a statement.
An exceptional cost-of-living allowance has been doubled to 600 pounds to be paid monthly to all employees of the state’s administrative body, the minister made it clear.
He put the number of beneficiaries from the raise at about 4.5 million employees, noting that this would cost some 16.4 billion pounds annually.
Personnel of the different economic authorities will also benefit from the monthly raise worth 1.2 billion pounds annually to be paid by each authority, the minister further said.
The political leadership in Egypt is keen on continually improving wages of the civil servants, Ma’eit said, pointing out that four raises have been endorsed in less than two years.
