The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt (NTRA) has instructed telecom operators in Egypt’s market to allow elderly users, above 60 years old, wishing to subscribe to fixed internet and landline services, to have their contracts signed at home without any additional fees incurred. Elderly users will not also need to visit the operator’s branch to get this service done. NTRA has also directed the operators to give priority to such a valued category of users so as to get their transactions promptly finished up without making them wait, should they visit the branch in person.

Eng. Hossam El-Gamal, the Executive President of NTRA, has clarified that such a step comes in line with NTRA’s keenness on disseminating telecom services across all age bands so that users would utilize the growing digital services, in conjunction with the State’s policy of digital transformation. This step will also facilitate the process of receiving services by the elderly with the minimum effort required.

Moreover, NTRA has pointed out that elderly users can now request to subscribe to fixed internet and landline services from home, through contacting the operator they wish to sign contract with. In fact, they should provide their valid National ID data, as well as any further data required, and set an appointment to have the contract signed. Afterwards, the operator’s representative should head to the address of service requestor so as to finish up all contracting procedures, in accordance with the regulatory instructions approved by NTRA.

In this vein, the operators have been urged to use the official customer service numbers of NTRA, should they wish to inquire about any information or data related to users. NTRA has also called upon telecom users not to disclose any information or data, except to operators and via their official contact channels, so as to keep their privacy protected.
