CAIRO- Head of Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate Diaa Rashwan asserted the keenness of the state on the profession of journalism and journalists’ interests, noting that the state’s direct support to the syndicate has been doubled over the past two years.

In statements to MBC Masr on Sunday evening, Rashwan said that journalism around the world especially the printed press has been facing multiple crises especially in light of coronavirus.

Rashwan said that there are 27,000 people of the journalists and their families in the health care program of the syndicate, adding that the health ministry cooperated with the syndicate to cure most of the journalists who were infected with coronavirus.

The state has extended to the syndicate financial and moral support all over the past two years more than any time before, he added. (MORE)

Rashwan voiced hope that the society would realize the role of the journalists, adding that the freedom of opinion and the freedom of expression are guaranteed by the Egyptian constitution.

He reiterated that imprisonment of journalists is not permitted except for the cases which involve sedition accusations.

He said the syndicate has been every effort to contact the general prosecution to release the journalists held in custody pending investigation.

Diaa asserted that freedom of expression and freedom of opinion would witness improvement in the coming phase, adding that freedom is the life of journalists
