Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamae said on Wednesday that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Spain reached 1.961 billion euros during the first nine months of 2021.

This is a 23.8-per cent rise on the same period last year, during which trade exchange amounted to 1.583 billion euros, said Gamae during a meeting with her visiting Spanish counterpart Xiana Mendez.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of an Egypt-Spain business forum, which was inaugurated by the prime ministers of both countries.

Gamae said she reviewed important projects that are being implemented by Spanish firms in Egypt, especially top-priority ventures funded as part of a financial co-operation protocol between the two sides.

She cited new and renewable energy projects, as well as fish farming and fish wealth development.

The meeting also took up means of boosting economic and trade relations between Cairo and Madrid in the coming stage, she added.

Gamae and Mendez also discussed investment opportunities at the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) and at the different ports.

The Egyptian minister invited Spanish companies to do business in Egypt, especially in the field of petrochemicals.

Mendez, for her part, said her country is keen on enhancing cooperation with Egypt, which, she believes, is one of the most effective economies in the Middle East and North Africa region.

She urged both countries to benefit from the big economic potentials in increasing inter-trade rates and bolstering communication between their private sectors.
