Boosting investment co-operation between Egypt and Romania topped the agenda of a high-level meeting in Cairo on Sunday.
CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Mohamed Abdel Wahab met with Daniela Nicolescu, Romania’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism.
Romanian Ambassador in Cairo Mihai Ştefan Stuparu attended the meeting.
Cairo and Bucharest have distinguished economic and trade relations based on joint coordination and convergence of identical views on many regional and international issues, Abdel Wahab said.
The two officials discussed mechanisms to familiarise the Romanian business community with investment opportunities available in Egypt.
Abdel Wahab said that the Egyptian government is offering investors a series of incentives for the sake of creating a favourable investment environment.
Stronger co-operation with Romania to attract more investments is top priority for both sides, Abdel Wahab said.
The GAFI chief said there is a distinct opportunity for co-operation between businesspersons in the two countries in petrochemicals, engineering industries and tractor manufacture, as well as in spinning and weaving, renewable energy, tourism, communications and cybersecurity.
The two officials agreed to hold the Egyptian-Romanian business forum next January with big-name Romanian companies interested in investing in Egypt.
