The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has continued its review of reports by international institutions on the performance of the economic situation in Egypt.
In its economic bulletin, the World Bank (WB) praised Egypt’s progress in women’s healthcare and safety of which details appear in the Women, Business Activities and Law Report by the World Bank Group 2020.
Egypt scored 54 points out of 222 in the WBL Index, which monitors laws and regulations in eight areas that affect women’s economic opportunities in 292 countries during the period September 2019-October 2020, the WB report said.
Egypt recorded the highest point in the pension index by 100 points, followed by the entrepreneurship and work environment index by 75 points, the report said.
The WB report said many countries want more gender equality, but women worldwide are still restricted by laws and regulations that limit their economic opportunities.
Egypt, in cooperation with UN, launched last May the initiative ‘Our Mental Health is a Priority’, to face the challenges caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the psychological pressure that millions of families have suffered around the world.
This initiative enlists the help of a group of psychologists and psychological support institutions to support women during the pandemic.
The WB also said in its report that Egypt, in partnership with the World Economic Forum, launched a plan for a catalyst to bridge the gender gap, making it the first country in Africa, the Middle East and North Africa region to launch this platform that aims to enhance joint efforts between the government and private sectors, civil society and international partners.
