LONDON – Egyptian Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named the EA Player of the Month for October, with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel taking the manager’s award.
Salah scored a hat-trick to inspire Liverpool to a 5-0 win over rivals Manchester United and netted outstanding individual goals against both Manchester City – which incidentally was named Goal of the Month – and at Watford.
The Egyptian had nine goal involvements in league games in October, helping Liverpool to two wins and two draws.
The Liverpool star scored five goals and registered four assists during the month.
Salah also continued his scoring exploits on the European stage with a double in a 3-2 Champions League win over Atletico Madrid.
He beat off competition from Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell, Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Southampton’s Tino Livramento, Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, and Youri Tielemans of Leicester, to win the accolade.
Michail Antonio and Cristiano Ronaldo won the August and September Player of the Month awards respectively.
Liverpool returns to action after the international break with a home game against Arsenal on November 20.
It is the fourth time Salah has won the Premier League Player of the Month award during his time at Liverpool, with the Egyptian collecting his first prize early on in his Anfield career in November 2017.
Salah then picked up back-to-back editions of the award in February and March 2018.
The prize cements Salah’s status as one of the best players in the Premier League right now – and possibly in Europe – with the Egyptian taking the award off Cristiano Ronaldo, who won September’s prize.
On Thursday, Salah has been named PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for October.
The Liverpool’s No.11 has won the award for the second successive month following a remarkable streak of form.
Salah scored five goals – a hat-trick in the Reds’ 5-0 win at Manchester United and incredible solo strikes against Manchester City and Watford respectively – and provided four assists in four Premier League appearances during October.
He saw off competition from Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Declan Rice, Phil Foden and Conor Gallagher to land the prize again.
Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, who has played with both Ronaldo and Salah in his career, claimed recently that playing with the Egyptian gives him the same thrill as with the Manchester United and Portugal forward.
Speaking to Sky Sports this week, Jota said: ‘He (Salah) is scoring goals for fun.
‘Great goals, individual goals, and for us this is helpful because we have someone on the field who can decide the game, and for the opponents they know they need to be careful and we can then take the spaces that they leave because they are too worried about him.
‘I had that first feeling when I played for the national team with Ronaldo and I think I can put him (Salah) up there to the same standards, though Ronaldo has been doing it for a very long time.
‘When they are on the field they are dangerous and can score at any time. And for me that is very useful as I can watch and learn from them.’
