Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir toured Sunday  a number of projects being implemented by the ministry in Upper Egyptian governorates, in the light of presidential directives to advance comprehensive development in this part of the country.

Accompanied by a host of senior officials, el-Wazir toured the site of the first phase of the Dyrout Road Axis along the River Nile.

The first phase of the road axis covers the area between the el-Houta Road in the east to the Agricultural Road intersection in the west.

This phase extends over 15 kilometers. It is 21 meters wide and contains two lanes on both directions, each of which is 7.5 meters wide.

The government is investing LE1.7 billion (roughly $109 million) in the construction of this road axis, which is around 86 per cent complete.

According to the minister, ten flyovers, and two tunnels will be constructed along the Dyrout Road Axis.

The whole road axis will be 42 kilometers long, Minister el-Wazir said.

He urged the engineers working on the site and the companies carrying out the project to assess the quality of the work they are doing every now and then.

The minister of transport underscored the importance of abidance by the timetables.

He also stressed the need for abiding by Covid-19 preventive measures on the part of the people implementing the project.

Minister el-Wazir said the new road axis is of paramount importance in that it would connect the Cairo – Assuit Desert Road in the east with the Agricultural Road in the west.

He revealed that his ministry would construct 14 road axes over the coming period, having allocated LE18.5 billion (around $1.2 billion) in investments for this purpose.

Accompanying Minister el-Wazir in the tour were Assuit Governor Essam Saad and a host of MPs from Dyrout.
