Al-Hamra petroleum port on the Mediterranean coast is one of the most important facilities to make Egypt a regional oil and gas trading centre.
It will witness unprecedented expansion to increase its capacity.
The development of such ports is an integral part of the petroleum ministry’s plans to make Egypt a regional hub for oil and gas trading.
These remarks by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el-Mulla came during the general assembly of the Western Desert Operating Petroleum Company’s (WEPCO) on Monday.
The minister said preparations are underway to expand and improve the infrastructure of al-Hamra petroleum port, which will serve as a regional centre for petroleum distribution and storage in Egypt.
El-Mulla stressed the importance of safety at Al-Hamra and instructed officials to raise the efficiency of the port’s security system by using high techsystems and staff training.
The minister called for intensive research and exploration work in Badr-1 field in the Western Desert in order to drill new oil and gas wells to increase production.
Badr-1 produced 1.5 million barrels in fiscal year 2020-2021, el-Mulla said.
Six new wells were drilled, bringing the field’s reserves to 17.25 million barrels.
