Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli said the national project for developing the Egyptian countryside, as part of presidential initiative “Decent Life” is a giant venture and actually translates all 2030 UN development goals.

Successful “Decent Life” project will mainly contribute to raising living standards of nearly half of the country’s population, added Madbouli during a meeting with UN Assistant Secretary General and UNDP Assistant Administrator Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Arab States Khalida Bouzar on Thursday.

The premier called on UN officials to closely follow up this unprecedented developmental project in Egypt.

Bouzar’s participation in Egypt’s Forum for International Cooperation and Developmental Financing reflects long-running partnership and distinguished cooperation with the UNDP, said Madbouli.

He noted the Egyptian government has been doing its best in the shadow of Covid-19 pandemic impacts in order to solve a more difficult equation to protect health of citizens and stabilise the Egyptian economy along with achieving high growth rates.

Madbouli, meanwhile, expounded on efforts exerted by the government to deal with climate change phenomenon.

He said a national council for climate change was formed and the country is now adopting a national strategy for climate change in consultation with the bodies concerned and the civil society to benefit from some experiments of world countries.

Madbouli reiterated Egypt’s keenness on playing host to the 27th UN conference on climate change (COP27), slated in 2022.

On her part, Bouzar thanked the Egyptian government for high-profile coordination seen in the forum, saying the UNDP has supported different activities of the ministries concerned, including social protection related files.

Bouzar affirmed the UNDP’s appreciation of the important role Egypt is playing in supporting development in the African continent and the Arab region, said Spokesman for the Cabinet Nader Saad.

She commended Egypt’s successful experiment in attending to Covid-19 pandemic repercussions and the country’s capabilities of achieving positive growth rates economically, despite challenges posed by the crisis globally, according to Saad.
