Preparations for the 11th Joint Egyptian-Libyan Committee meeting topped the agenda of a ministerial meeting on Friday.
Minister of International Co-operation Rania el-Mashat, Libyan Minister of the Economy and Trade Mohamed al-Hwaij and Libyan Minister of State for Economic Development Salama al-Ghwail discussed a series of proposals for enhancing co-operation between Cairo and Tripoli with the aim of opening a new chapter in relations between the two capitals.
Discussions also focused on Libyan reconstruction and means of benefiting from the economic potentials of both Egypt and Libya.
Egypt and Libya need to capitalise on their geographic proximity in charting a future of vibrant economic co-operation, the ministers said.
El-Mashat said her ministry hopes to increase co-operation with the Libyan side through their joint committee.
“Joint committees are an effective mechanism for the promotion of economic diplomacy,” el-Mashat added.
She noted that her ministry would work hard to ensure the success of the Joint Egyptian-Libyan Committee in fulfilling its mission and follow up on its results.
“We will also keep in contact with all parties concerned to remove any obstacles that prevent the implementation of the committee’s decisions to maximise bilateral co-operation with Libya,” the minister said.
She called for encouraging businessmen from both countries to enter into joint development projects.
El-Mashat also underscored the importance of creating a favourable atmosphere for partnerships between the business communities in the two countries to bear fruit.
