President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for the formation of a new distinguished generation of enlightened imams and preachers, to formulate a disciplined religious public opinion while preserving the constants of the true Islamic Sharia.

This should come “in a way that takes into consideration the developments, pursues the jurisprudence of reality,” while preserving the principles of the true Islamic Sharia.

President Sisi made these remarks during his meeting on Thursday with Minister of Waqfs Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs Mohamed Amin, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

The meeting reviewed the ministry’s efforts for developing the Waqfs Authority, and training and qualifying imams and preachers, as well as its work in the field of authorship and translation, Radi added.

During the meeting, Gomaa reviewed the ministry’s efforts in managing the authority’s funds to secure the Waqfs investments and make the utmost revenues from them.

President Sisi issued directives to continue the efforts to preserve, develop and manage the endowment funds.

In addition, Gomaa reviewed the role of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and its successes in authorship and translation, as well as the ministry’s efforts to intensify contacts with moderate religious institutions worldwide to contribute to disseminating moderate thinking, achieving global peace and bolstering the foundations of coexistence, based on mutual respect between countries and peoples.

The ministry’s communication with these global institutions also aim to consolidate the concept of the national state and respect of citizenship rights, Gomaa added.

Briefed on the executive position of the ministry’s plan for training imams, President Sisi called for boosting efforts to support the imams financially.
