The Arab Parliament emphasised the need to join Arab and international efforts in order to enhance the security and safety of maritime navigation in the Arab region, according to MENA.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Arab Parliament said the threats posed to maritime security in the Arabian Gulf and the Arabian Sea not only affect the security and stability of the region, but also constitute a threat to global economic security, especially that the transfer of energy resources around the world mainly depends on the region’s sea lanes.
It added that the security and freedom of maritime navigation is one of the cardinal principles of international law, calling for full compliance with all international instruments and charters that guarantee the security and freedom of international navigation, most notably the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
