Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for making optimal use of assets and land spaces of Greater Cairo’s Public Transport Authority especially given that the transport sector with all its components constitutes one of the most important pillars of comprehensive and sustainable development and represents a vital element of the daily life of citizens.
The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Transport Kamel el-Wazir, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
The meeting was devoted to reviewing executive position of a number of projects being carried out by the Ministry of Transport nationwide.
In directives he gave during the meeting, President Sisi called for developing the new network of axial roads on the River Nile into a system of integrated aspects rather than being confined only to connectivity and transportation.
In this respect, the president noted that the new axial roads should serve as arteries of development and life for all citizens on both banks of the River Nile, in addition to facilitating the heavy daily traffic.
During the meeting, Minister Wazir gave a presentation of the developments of the executive position of the high-speed electric train project, which will link the cities of Ain Sokhna and el-Alamein, extending to Mersa Matrouh and passing through the New Administrative Capital and Greater Cairo.
Minister Wazir also highlighted the Transport Ministry’s efforts to develop the ring road surrounding Greater Cairo, which includes raising its efficiency and expanding its traffic lanes to eight in each direction.
The Transport Ministry’s ongoing projects, he said, also aim at developing all of the Ring Road’s entrances and exits. Also covered by these projects are the tracks and stations of the regular bus routes that will operate along the Ring Road as part of the integrated smart transport system that will be applied on all high speed roads, he added.
Elaborating, Minister Wazir said that the projected system will realise a major leap in transportation, regulate the movement of citizens and end the congestion caused by the spread of random terminals.
The minister then reviewed the latest developments of action to upgrade and raising the efficiency of the systems of the underground metro’s first line as well as the current measures to modernize the administrative and operating systems of the railway network.
Action in this direction, he added, includes such infrastructure projects as the development of signals and slides in accordance with the latest world standards with a view to enhancing safety measures especially along Upper Egypt’s with Luxor/High Dam line.
