Spokesman of the Arab League Secretary General Hossam Zaki asserted that the Arab League is exerting strenuous efforts to put an end to the war in Gaza and mobilize all possible political support for the Palestinian cause.
In an interview with Al Qahira news channel, Zaki said Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit had talks with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
The two sides engaged in fruitful talks, he said, noting that Abul Gheit called for immediate ceasefire and returning to the political track to settle the Palestinian cause.
Meanwhile, Abul Gheit also held talks on Saturday with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, at the headquarters of the AL, on the developments of the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip.
Zaki noted that this was the first time for the Turkish minister to visit the AL HQ, adding that Fidan invited Abult Gheit to visit Turkey.
Zaki noted that the Arab League will receive the African Union chairman.
Zaki noted that Abul Gheit has sent an urgent letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to call on him to use his political and moral weight to prevent a new war crime Israel is planning to commit as part of its bloody and shameful campaign against the Gaza Strip; as Israel told all residents of the northern Gaza Strip to relocate immediately to its south.
This also constitutes a flagrant violation of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the Occupying Power from the individual or mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from the occupied territory, added the letter.
As for the outcome of the emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers, Zaki said the meeting called on world countries to adopt a balanced stand through mobilizing efforts against targeting civilians of both sides.
He extolled Egypt’s outstanding efforts to reach a truce to ensure access of aid to the Gaza Strip.
As for resorting to the United Nations Security Council, he said Russia presented a draft resolution on immediate cease of fire, allowing humanitarian aid into the Strip and releasing hostage.
As for the visit of US State Secretary Antony Blinken to the Middle East, Zaki said the move is seen as positive as he will stand on the Arab vision on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He added that any move to settle the situation and halt military operations is welcomed.
He noted that both the US and China can play an effective role in this crisis as the US has a great impact on Israel. China supports the Palestinians rights and can also affect Israel.
