Cairo, Rome keen to boost economic, trade ties

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Wednesday Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation Antonio Tajani.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri and Italian Ambassador in Cairo Michele Quaroni.

President Sisi and the Italian senior official said there is a mutual desire to boost the distinguished partnership between the two friendly countries.

The meeting discussed means to boost economic and trade co-operation between Cairo and Rome, in light of the long-standing relations binding the two countries.

President Sisi stressed the importance of rallying efforts to promote food production and joint industrial co-operation, as well as making the best use of the opportunities available in energy and renewable energy.

The two sides also discussed the growing investments of Italian companies in Egypt.

President Sisi and the Italian deputy prime minister reviewed the current developments on the Palestinian-Israeli front.

The two sides agreed on the necessity of working hard to stop the escalation of violence and achieve calm between the Palestinians and Israelis, in order to ensure security and stability in the Middle East region.

They affirmed that a just and comprehensive peace, based on the two-state solution, is an utmost necessity for the stability in the entire region.

The Italian deputy prime minister also underscored Italy’s confidence in Egypt’s important and vital role in this regard.

President Sisi said that Egypt is making tireless efforts and intensifying consultations with global powers to contain the situation, stop bloodshed and protect civilians and properties in the Gaza Strip.

He referred to the importance of the European and international role in supporting the path towards calm and negotiations between the two sides.
