Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from UN Secretary General António Guterres.

During the phone call, the two sides discussed the latest developments in the current escalation between the Palestinians and Israelis, as well as the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, said the presidential spokesman.

President Sisi and Guterres agreed that the current crisis poses a great threat to the peace and security in the region, underlining the need of suspending of military operations and protecting civilians through taking immediate measures to prevent more deterioration in the humanitarian conditions and give a chance to diplomatic efforts to contain the situation, restore calm, and revive peace process.

President Sisi stressed the need to work seriously to reach a just solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions issued in this regard.

He also affirmed Egypt’s support for any future steps in this regard, in addition to the crucial role of the United Nations in coordination with the active parties in the international community.
