Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi lauded the steadfast support offered by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to Egypt.
The president made the remarks during his meeting on Monday with WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom, in the presence of Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, said Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmi.
President Sisi said the Egyptian State dedicated all resources to eradicate Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), through establishing specialised centres to treat patients infected with the disease, providing the required diagnostic methods, qualifying medical cadres and backing the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry that managed to secure millions of doses of medicines.
The spokesman stated that the WHO director general handed President Sisi the gold level certificate for Egypt’s success in eradicating HCV in record time.
Adhanom said Egypt is the world’s first country to receive this certificate, as it made astonishing progress in combating the virus.
The two sides reviewed prospects of co-operation between Egypt and the WHO in supporting presidential initiatives aimed at enhancing public health in the country.
