Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam on Sunday met with his counterpart from South Sudan Pal Mai Deng, in Cairo for co-operation talks.

Both officials chaired the meeting of the Egyptian-South Sudanese technical committee to review development projects in water resources management.

Sunday’s meeting was part of exchange visits to strengthen co-operation and integration with Nile Basin countries, the minister said.

Egypt is implementing projects in drinking water, rainwater collection and drainage in South Sudan, the minister added.

For his part, Deng expressed his appreciation for Egyptian assistance in clean water supplies, animal husbandry and flood prevention.

South Sudan is keen to benefit from Egyptian expertise and experience in water management and planning, Deng said.

The two ministers also discussed the institutional support for the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in South Sudan, such as establishing a centre for flood prediction and early warning. They agreed to continue the co-ordination and consultation between the two countries on various water issues of common interest.
