Egypt’s Minister of International Co-operation Rania el-Mashaat on Wednesday met with Sean Jones, new Head of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director in Egypt.
The minister spoke of the ongoing development cooperation portfolio worth $1 billion since 2014 in the form of development grants to develop the role of the private sector, finance small- and medium-scale enterprises, develop education and health sectors, tourism, agriculture, and climate action.
This strategic partnership will be bolstered over during the year 2022 by signing grant agreements worth $160 million to advance development efforts by targeting education and health, in addition to a new climate initiative grant agreement worth $15 million.
The minister also reviewed the details of the Nexus for Water, Food and Energy Platform, the NWFE programme to mobilise climate financing and private sector investment.
Through USAID, the US government has invested $30 billion in Egypt’s development.
