Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nivine Qabbaj said the ministry devised the first Arab action plan to combat addiction through the Arab Social Affairs Ministers Council as part of efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to coordinate Arab endeavors to reduce drug use.
Qabbaj, who is Board Chairperson of the Addiction Treatment & Abuse Fund , said during a meeting with an Iraqi parliamentary delegation Monday that the plan was approved by member countries of the Arab Social Affairs Ministers Council and announced by the secretary general of the Arab League last March.
The plan is considered as a guideline for Arab countries in laying down policies of fighting addiction as per international criteria, she said.
Talks tackled ways of benefiting from the Fund’s great experiences to treat addicts.
She reiterated complete and full support for the Iraqi side in its efforts to fight the addiction problem, in addition to boosting relations between Egypt and Iraq on all fronts.
In turn, the Iraqi delegation thanked the minister for her tireless efforts in combating addiction.
