Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam said that Egypt is looking forward to achieving further co-operation with all African countries with the view to promoting economic integration and ensuring prosperity in the African continent.
This came during a meeting with former foreign minister and chairman of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA) Mohamed el Orabi, Director of the ECFA Ezzat Saad, and other members of the council.
During the meeting, the participants discussed progress made so far to implement projects between Egypt and African and Nile Basin countries.
They also reviewed the work of the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW), under the current Egyptian presidency of the Council.
The minister said that Egypt, during its two-year presidency of the council, will address water-related issues in Africa and the impact of climate change and its link with floods, torrential rains, droughts and hurricanes.
He further noted that he will continue coordination with various African countries to assert their support for the Action on Water Adaptation and Resilience (AWARe), which was launched by Egypt during the 2022 climate conference (COP 27), and back the participation of African countries in capacity-building programs offered by the Pan African Center for Water and Climate Change Adaptation (PACWA).
