Representatives of two capital cities of Cairo and Hanoi on July 27 signed a friendship and co-operation agreement in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Trần Lưu Quang, who was on an official visit to Egypt.
The agreement, signed by Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyễn Mạnh Quyền and Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, aims to promote relations and mutual understanding between the two cities in the areas of culture, sciences, education, health care, tourism, sports, environment, and trade.
Speaking at the event, Quyền said the signing took place at a meaningful and important time as Việtnam and Egypt are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.
He said the agreement not only marks the trust in bilateral political co-operation but also opens up many new co-operation opportunities for both sides, contribute to prosperity of the two capitals and strengthen the traditional friendship between Việtnam and Egypt. The deputy governor of Hanoi extended an official invitation to the governor of Cairo to visit Hanoi to strengthen relations between the two cities.
After the signing of the agreement, the governor of Cairo gave the Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and the Deputy Governor of Hanoi the shield of the Cairo Governorate.
Cairo Governor Abdel Aal pointed out that the diplomatic ties binding the two countries are deeply rooted and extending over decades.
