Italian opera house Teatro di San Carlo will be performing at the Giza Pyramids on October 11 on its first international tour since Covid-19 pandemic and its first ever performance in Egypt.

The announcement came from Italian Ambassador to Cairo Michele Quaroni and CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Board (ETPB) Amr El-Qadi at a reception held at the Embassy.

El-Qadi said such an event at the Giza pyramids would be a superb advertisement for this tourist destination and attract more Italian tourists, especially opera lovers.

Established in 1737, Teatro di San Carlo is the world’s oldest working opera house.

The event is being organised by advertising agency RMC Worldwide Partners.

“The event will be the biggest in the history of Egyptian-Italian relations,” Ahmed Ebeid, founder and managing director of RMC Worldwide Partners, told The Egyptian Gazette.

He added that a singer from Egypt will join the performance.

“More details about tickets and the name of the singer will be revealed in mid-August,” Ebeid said.

He said that a number of international businessmen confirmed their attendance and will come by their private jets especially to the event.

“Half of the audience will be foreigners,” Ebeid added.

As for the venue, Ebeid said, it can accommodate up to 2500 seats.

“It is the same venue of the French fashion house Dior’s first show of the 2023 fall men’s collection held in front of the Pyramids of Giza in December 2022,” he added.

Italian tourism is one of largest tourism exporting markets to Egypt, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa has said.

In June, Issa held meetings in the Italian capital, Rome, with the heads of major Italian tourism companies to push for more tourist traffic coming to Egypt from the Italian market. The meetings were covered by Italian media.
